Prentice Lab at the EGU General Assembly 2019. By Alison Prior

The European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly 2019 gathered over 16,000 scientists from 113 countries in Vienna earlier this month. The Prentice Lab showcased their work in sessions ranging in topic from mountain climatology and hydrology to soil plant atmosphere interactions and terrestrial ecosystem carbon and water response.  The Prentice Lab’s research (@LabPrentice) centres around explaining and predicting ecosystem carbon and water exchange, and global phytogeographic patterns, and accounting for the functional diversity of terrestrial plant communities. The work presented at EGU highlights some of the lab’s latest results in modelling … Continue reading Prentice Lab at the EGU General Assembly 2019. By Alison Prior

Is net primary production of forests a constant fraction of gross primary production? 20 years on and the answer is no, it’s not that simple. By Colin Prentice

Colin has a new paper out, published in Tree Physiology with Dr Alessio Collalti from Italy. The aim of the paper was to test the reliability and accuracy of a long-held hypothesis due to Waring et al. (1998) that the NPP to GPP ratio is constant (at 0.47). For twenty years, researchers have been trying to … Continue reading Is net primary production of forests a constant fraction of gross primary production? 20 years on and the answer is no, it’s not that simple.
